CRIP RAVE THEORY

April 15, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Club night outside the club! Drawing on disabled knowledge to create more intersectionally-accessible rave spaces ❤️‍

CRIP RAVE THEORY is back baby; bigger and badder than ever 😈

Following our first, sell-out party in 2022, your favourite club night outside the club returns to PACT, with a stacked lineup to carry you through from arvo to dusk to darkness. On Sat 15 April, arrive and listen to lush sounds as you soak up the last rays of sun, eat, drink and chill before moving into the warehouse as things get dark for even more DJs, performance and dancing ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Headlining the event is Naarm’s incomparable SOVBLKPSSY, supported by local icons salllvage, CRT’s mama Aquenta, b2b angels Rydeen & Ma’Ata, Zzarni and Taruna 🔥🔥🔥 We also have a performance by Club Chrome founder, the phenomenal Eva Berlin; and swirling custom visuals by Nory (Naarm). Hottest light to night vibes. Don’t miss it: get your tickets now!

CRT is both a party and a proposition: drawing on disabled/crip knowledge to create more intersectionally-accessible rave spaces.

In response to inaccessible and exclusionary club spaces, CRIP RAVE THEORY centres and celebrates all bodies that are sidelined in traditional nightlife culture; a space for community, connection, pleasure and self-expression.

CRIP RAVE THEORY takes place on the stolen land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded; always was, always will be Aboriginal Land, all across so-called Australia.

VENUE INFO

• This event takes place at PACT, which is located at 107 Railway Parade, Erskineville NSW 2043, on unceded Gadigal Land.

• Overall, PACT as a venue has good wheelchair-access. There is level access to the venue from the street, and the venue is single-storey.

Outside, there is a courtyard which has a gentle slope to it. There is also a deck, which has ramped access.

Inside, there is a warehouse space, a small foyer, and several toilets. The floor of the warehouse is again gently sloped in some parts. More level areas will be marked out on the floor on the night.

• The toilets are all-gender toilets. There is 1x ambulant toilet, and 1x wheelchair accessible toilet (with shower but no adult change station)

• There is no parking on site. However, there is level street parking directly outside, and slightly-sloped parking in the surrounding streets. There is no designated accessible parking space outside provided by council.

• There will be an accessible drop-off zone directly outside for those needing to be dropped at the venue doors.

• The closest station is Erskineville Station. The closest WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE station is Newtown Station.

• We will be sharing a venue map and photos of the site prior to the event – please follow @cripravetheory on Instagram for these.

• There will be party support people on the night, to keep things accessible, safe and fun. They can assist with things like carrying food and drinks to people as required, supporting people to navigate the space, accompanying people to/from the station, and assisting with car drop-off/pick up zone. They are also the people you should contact on the night if you experience or witness anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.

If you would like to get in touch to discuss your access requirements prior to the event, please email cripravetheory@hotmail.com

At CRIP RAVE THEORY, we recognise that striving for greater access for all is an ongoing, collaborative process. We embrace and acknowledge that everyone’s needs are complex, and that at times they may overlap, and also butt up against each other.

CRIP RAVE THEORY is disability-led, and committed to community-leadership, solidarity, collective-care and continued learning and growth. Our lineups always include a majority of people who identify with an experience of disability. We strive to book across as many intersections as possible.

If you have any further questions, suggestions, or would like any information in another format, please do get in touch via cripravetheory@hotmail.com ❤️‍

~COVID SAFETY~

Our general stance is that masks are required indoors. We will have some available, but encourage you to bring your own; as they will be better tailored to your individual requirements.

Performers will be RAT testing on the day of the event, and hand sanitiser will also be available on site.

Please note the following:

In order to facilitate communication and a meaningful experience for all members of our community (including, for example, those who are D/deaf, HoH, and for whom English is a second language) performers, support staff and patrons will often need to remove their masks. They may also need to do so to facilitate their own access needs, eat and drink

Ultimately, our team are community organisers, not mediators or cops, and so we are not trained or able to control how everyone behaves on the night.

What we are trying to do, however, is cultivate a space where people willingly and genuinely show up in solidarity and care for each other, respecting everyone’s bodily realities as much as possible, and adjusting behaviours across the night accordingly.

Access needs often clash, and it is with kindness and openness that we navigate this together 💖

For the safety of the community, we strongly encourage you to stay home on the day of the party if you feel unwell.

[Image description: Text reads ‘CRIP RAVE THEORY’ in lavender-coloured capital letters with horizontal lines. They are floating in front of a greyish-blue background. Light reflects off the dips and valleys in its surface. To the right of this and down a little, darker purple text reads “SOVBLKPSSY, AQUENTA, SALLLVAGE, RYDEEN b2b MA’ATA, ZZARNI, TARUNA, EVA BERLIN (performance), VISUALS BY NORY”. Around this, gold and orange amorphous, blobby shapes float in the air. Light reflects of their surfaces. Bits of a golden wheelchair, cane and walking frame can also be seen within the blobs. In the top left corner, a silver wheel is also partially obscured by the gold and orange blobs. Along the bottom of the image, in black, are the following words: “location: PACT (Gadigal Land) | Time: 3-10.30pm | Date: Sat 15 April” ]
